Recently, Twitter released a round-up of stats of the Top Hashtag Trends in India in this year, and admittedly, there have there been very few surprises. All in all, it has been an interesting year for the Indian film industry with some of the biggest debacles, and some record breakers. And guess what? It is all talked about. Right from Baahubali 2 to Deepika Padukone‘s and the Padmavati controversy, everything has been a talked about on Twitter. And with a record book of all that, Twitter reveals to us some notable stats.
One of the winners of the Twitter hashtag trend is Tamil Superstar Suriya, whose second look from his Tamil film Thaana Serndha Kootam was retweeted upwards of 70,500 times – the highest this year. Not even Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, who have gargantuan fan bases of their own, received that massive a response for their much-awaited releases this year – Tubelight and Jab Harry Met Sejal. But that’s not it. South cinema has seen an upward trend overall this year, with Prabhas’ Baahubali 2 and Thalapathy Vijay’s Mersal being the top hashtag trends of the year in entertainment. And Twitter is just one of the places it has branched to. Only Aamir Khan’s Dangal came close to rattling the domestic box office collections of the likes of Baahubali 2, Mersal, and many more Southern productions.
