Born on April 2, 1969, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn aka Ajay Devgan turns a year older today. Dubbed as one of the finest actors of the film industry, he has numerous awards to his credit to justify the same. Son of renowned action director Veeru Devgan, Ajay began his Bollywood career in 1991 with hit film Phool Aur Kaante opposite Madhoo. The debutant’s entry in the movie, performing a split stunt on two motorbikes, made him an action hero of the era.
In his career of more than 24 years, Ajay has done numerous films of various genres, including action, comedy, and drama. The two-time National Award-winner married Bollywood actress Kajol in the year 1999, and the couple has two kids Nysa and Yug. 1. Dilwale:
Released in the year 1994, Dilwale stars Ajay Devgn, Sunil Shetty and Raveena Tandon in lead roles. The romantic actioner was a blockbuster and the first highest grossing film of the year. This Ajay Devgn film collected over Rs 68 crore across the world.
2. Gangaajal:
Although Gangaajal didn’t earn much at the box office, the movie received positive reviews from the audience. Directed by Prakash Jha, the 2003 movie threw light on Bhagalpur’s blinding incident. Ajay Devgn’s role as a police officer was widely appreciated in the film. The filmmakers are in talks for making a sequel of the film soon.
3. Apaharan:
Ajay Devgn’s 2005 film Apaharan was a crime film set in the backdrop of Bihar’s kidnapping industry. The movie also stars Nana Patekar and Bipasha Basu. It earned around Rs 8 crores at the box office. Kajol’s hubby dearest was nominated for the National Film Award for Best Actor and Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in Apaharan.
4. Omkara:
Written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Omkara is an adapted version of Shakespeare’s Othello. Released in 2005, the movie stars Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi and Kareena Kapoor in prominent roles. The film won several awards, including three awards at the Kara Film Festival, an award at the Asian Festival of First Films, three National Film Awards, and seven Filmfare Awards.
5. Golmaal:
Directed by Rohit Shetty, Golmaal was a super hit comedy film released in 2006. Starring Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi, Tusshar Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Rimi Sen, the movie turned out to be an unanticipated hit. After the success of the film, Rohit made sequels Golmaal Returns (2008) and Golmaal 3 (2010), which broke records of the first film.
6. Once Upon A time in Mumbaai:
This 2010 film was amongst the top-grossing films of the year. Starring Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Prachi Desai, Kangna Ranaut and Randeep Hooda, Once Upon A time in Mumbaai received mixed reviews but was a box-office hit. Ajay’s role in the film as Sultan Mirza was widely appreciated by the audience and critics.
7. Singham:
After Rohit Shetty’s successful association with Ajay Devgn in the Golmaal Series, he decided to make an action film with the actor. In 2011, Rohit directed Singham, a remake of the Tamil blockbuster film of the same name. Ajay’s role as Singham the police officer in the film was widely appreciated in this blockbuster.
The intense-looking actor has given many more best performing movies to the industry, like Zakhm, The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Pyar To Hona Hi Tha. Ajay also launched his own production company Ajay Devgan Films in 2000. He debuted as a director in 2008 with U Me Aur Hum. The movie did average business at the box office, but Kajol was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and Star Screen Award for Best Actress in 2009.
