Akshay Kumar–Bhumi Pednekar starrer film, Toilet :Ek Prem Katha (TEPK), opened up with a collection of 13.10 crore, but the film saw a major boost in the numbers on the second day as it earned 17.10 crore, bringing the total to 30.20 crore in two days, according to Trade analyst Taran Adarsh. With a holiday for Independence Day on Tuesday, the collection is expected to take a further hike which can help the film to cross Rs 48 crore. Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#ToiletEkPremKatha witnessed FANTASTIC growth on Sat… Strong word of mouth is translating into MASSIVE numbers… #TEPK.”
While yesterday the movie’s earnings were less than Imtiaz Ali’s Shah Rukh Khan–Anushka Sharma starrer film, Jab Harry Met Sejal (JHMS) that released on August 4, the former has beaten the latter on the second day. JHMS that had opened up with a collection of Rs 15 crore, saw a dip on the second day as it earned Rs 14.25 crore, bringing the total collection to Rs 29.25 crore in two days.
Earlier, both the movies were to release on the same day on the same day ie August 11, but SRK pre-poned the release of the movie to August 4, averting probably what would have been the second biggest box office clash of the year after Raees vs Kaabil earlier in 2017. However, JHMS is reported to be one of Shah Rukh’s lowest film openings in the recent past and due to poor reviews the movie couldn’t live up to everyone’s expectations.
TEPK, on the other hand, which was always tipped to be running hit given its entertainment value and the stand it took for a national and social issue, has been garnering mixed to positive reviews from all quarters. But, looking at the second day numbers, we’re expecting the movie to stick to our earlier expectations and fair well at the Box Office.
