Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar, released worldwide on Friday, August 11. The Shree Narayan Singh directorial venture has amassed an approximate collection of Rs 13.10 crore in its first day at the domestic market, according to Trade analyst, Taran Adarsh. He tweeted, “Taran Adarsh, “#ToiletEkPremKatha Fri ₹ 13.10 cr. India biz… Sat and Sun look better… Biz to get big boost on Tue [Independence Day]… #TEPK.” With Independence day being another public holiday on the cards, it is a big boost for the makers.
However, the collection is less than the day 1 collection of Jab Harry Met Sejal. Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal had earned Rs 15.25 crore on its day 1.
Even the occupancy rates on the first day for the movie are lesser than that of Jab Harry Met Sejal. Released in over 3000 screens in India, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha reportedly received nearly 30-35 per cent occupancy on the first day whereas Jab Harry Met Sejal, opened to 40 per cent occupancy on day 1. The film that was always touted to be an entertaining movie with a special an important message, has been garnering mixed reviews from all quarters, with ratings ranging from 1.5 to 4 stars on several leading websites. Many are calling it part movie and part propaganda. With the ongoing weekend and the upcoming Independence day holiday, it needs to be seen if the movie can exceed Jab Harry Met Sejal as far as numbers are concerned.
