That Anupam Kher will be essaying the role of former Prime Minister of the UPA Government, Manmohan Singh in The Accidental Prime Minister was announced last year. However, it was only a few days ago that the actor started shooting for the film. From the on-set pics that made its way to the social media, it seemed like the actor has easily got into the skin of the character. We’ve now got our hands on the first clip of the film, which has further strengthened our belief that Anupam Kher was indeed the right choice for the part.

Kher not only looks exactly like the former PM but has also mastered the way Singh walks. Earlier, during an interview with a leading daily, Kher had said, “The opportunity of portraying a contemporary personality like Dr Manmohan Singh in The Accidental Prime Minister is an immense challenge for me as an actor. He is part of a 24/7 media era where world knows his persona minutely. I have been internalizing this character for the past few months. I look forward to translating that effort into cinematic reality.” For the uninitiated, the Accidental Prime Minister is based on a book by the same name written by Sanjaya Baru, who was the former PM’s media advisor from May 2004 to August 2008. The shoot of the project has already commenced. Take a look at the video clip below :

Besides Kher, the film also stars Akshaye Khanna who will be playing the role of Baru and Lipstick Under My Burkha’s Ahana Kamra as Priyanka Gandhi. The Accidental Prime Minister also stars German actor Suzanne Bernert who will play Sonia Gandhi in the film. Helmed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, and bankrolled by Hansal Mehta, The Accidental Prime Minister is slated to release on December 21 this year.
