New Delhi, April 6: At a time when all eyes are on the Jodhpur Sessions Court, which is set to hear the bail plea of superstar Salman Khan in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, the Bollywood has come out in full support of the actor. Several personalities from the entertainment industry have described the five-year jail term awarded to Salman Khan as harsh and appealed for leniency from the court of law.
Sahila Chadha, who worked with Salman Khan in the hugely successful movie ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’, claimed that Salman was “innocent” and that he should be freed immediately.
“He (Salman) is innocent…I know him personally. He has done nothing. He is suffering for this stardom. Salman is one person who loves animals, humans alike. The court should give him bail,” Sahila Chadha told Zee News.
What Judge Said While Holding Salman Guilty
During the hearing in the blackbuck poaching case on Thursday, Salman’s lawyers pointed towards the actor’s track record and said that he has not been convicted in any case previously.
The defence counsel also said Salman was under the custody of forest department for five days and he should be given the benefit of the Probation of Offenders Act.
But the court refused to give Salman the benefit citing the circumstances of the case and gravity of the offence, according to a copy of the judgment.
While announcing the verdict in 20-year-old case, Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri said that Salman is a “popular actor whose deeds are followed by people”.
“The accused is a popular actor whose deeds are followed by people. Despite this, the accused hunted two blackbucks,” Khatri wrote in his order.
