The Jodhpur trial court, that pronounced the verdict in the 1998 black buck poaching case that involves actors Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre, has convicted Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan, while acquitting other accused. Bollywood was quick to react to the news; it drew mixed reactions from his peers in the film industry. From filmmaker Subhash Ghai to veteran Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan, many expressed their thoughts about the actor being handed a five-year jail term.
While many from the industry are hoping for Salman’s release, singer Sona Mohapatra has lashed out at the actor. She took to her micro-blogging site to write. “So, what new inane defence will Madhu Kishwar sprout now? Nafisa Ali? RJ Rishi Kannan? Will daddy say sorry on his behalf? What will the suck ups in the industry do? When’s bail? When’s the next block buster release? Dabangg’concert’ tour dates? Big Boss? For the uninitiated, the actor was accused of poaching a black-buck while shooting for the movie, Hum Saath Saath Hain in 1998. Along with Salman, Sonali Bendre, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu and Neelam too were accused of poaching blackbucks during the shoot of their film in Jodhpur. Reportedly, two endangered species, those are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, had been killed on the outskirts of Kankani village near Jodhpur. Watch this space for further updates.
