In 2002, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan did it in the Dola re dola song from Devdas – she matched up to Madhuri Dixit-Nene’s renowned dancing skills in the number. As a result, we had two of the prettiest ladies of B’town delighting us with their dance in what proved to be a very popular number.
In 2013, young Bollywood babe Huma Qureshi has been pitted against the seasoned Madhuri in another such song – Hamari atariya pe from Dedh Ishqiya. Has Huma been able to rise to the occasion and match Madhuri’s steps? Sadly, no she hasn’t.
While Huma has not done badly, she looks like she could’ve done with a little more rehearsal. Clearly, she’s not a dancer who wants to get her nuances right. In fact, that means Madhuri has been able to steal the show just by being herself and not going overboard with her dancing.
If only it was more of a firebrand jugalbandi dance like Aishwarya and Madhuri’s in Devdas. The two beauties have absolute control over their moves in Dola re. In Hamari atariya pe, a number beautifully rendered by Rekha Bhardwaj, Madhuri outshines Huma. We wonder if that has something to do with choreographer Remo D’Souza’s friendship with Madhuri. The two judged dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa along with Karan Johar.
