Emraan Hashmi in Mr X, Shahid Kapoor in Haider – why is Bollywood going bald?

Emraan Hashmi in Mr X and Shahid Kapoor in Haider

Shahid Kapoor recently shared the picture of his ‘bald’ look – actually it’s just a buzz cut – from his film Haider. And now it’s Emraan Hashmi who’s gone completely bald in Mr X, a horror film.

Probably the justification given by Emraan and Mr X director Vikram Bhatt would be that the role in a ghost movie required that kind of gory and vicious look, as seen in the picture.

Shahid also would never say no to any a makeover for a film by his Kaminey mentor Vishal Bhardwaj – and definitely not when Haider is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

But we wonder if it’s really for the role that actors are shaving off their heads. Or is it that they simply want to experiment like Aamir Khan did with his buzz cut in Ghajini? Are Emraan and Shahid going bald for attention?

Emraan has proven himself as a decent actor but has never been known to be too confident of his looks and so this bald wig will get him more curious glances and people will decide whether they want to watch Mr X or skip it.

As for Shahid, he has not had a big hit for the last two-three years at least and needs a more dramatic film than a R…Rajkumar or Phata Poster Nikhla Hero. In fact, the last time Shahid was most appreciated for a role was in a Bhardwaj film itself – Kaminey. Then Mausam and Teri Meri Kahaani flopped although Shahid was good in them. But then he was not bad in Badmaash Company either. Call it bad luck or what, but Shahid’s last two films have been more of a rip off of what others are doing.

Now what Shahid needs is a good superhit, which he will probably get with some good acting in Haider. If he is banking on his crew cut look to do that, he would be wrong!
