Did you catch up on Game of Thrones before today’s episode? I know the wait has been too long, but finally, WINTER IS HERE! Or should I say, ‘The War Is Here’? As the long night has come, the death comes with it. Like we’ve heard it from Cersei (Lena Headey) throughout the seasons, ‘When we play the Game Of Thrones, you win or you die, there is no middle ground’.
George RR Martins got us intrigued with the release of teaser, trailer and various stills from the season 7, showing us new footage and giving a brand new look at the battles to come on the HBO show. The latest edition premiere, Dragonstone, will see the King of the North Jon Snow (Kit Harington) to organise the defense of the North, Cersei tries to even the odds and yet again she refuses to take Jamie Lannister’s advice. While Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) discovers crucial information, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) comes home sailing across the Narrow Sea, hoping to take back her father’s throne. She lands on Dragonstone with her army.
The first episode starts with the zoom on the old Walder Frey’s (David Bradley). We know that Frey is dead as we saw Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) to slit his throat last season, feeding him a meat pie made of his own two sons, then what was this about? The very first scene is about Frey addressing his men, says he wants to tell them his plans for his great house, but before, he raises a toast to celebrate the win, he thanks the brave lot for helping him slaughter the Stark family at the Red Wedding. While we wonder if this is a flashback, it quickly becomes clear that this isn’t as soon as the assembled Freys were seen choking to death on poisoned flagons of wine. What a start! If one might wonder, the biggest Dragon-heavy show on television still has the potential to shock and surprise its fans, then the answer, happily, is yes. (ALSO READ: SHOCKING! The story of two most powerful queens plotted on opposite sides of Blackwater Bay was interesting. Also, the proposal of Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk) to Cersei is something to look forward to. The proposal of marriage has been declined as of now, but it would be interesting to watch what Cersei has to say about it when he gets her the priceless gift. The dialogue and music, as usual, is brilliant. Right from Arya’s dialogue – ‘Tell them the North Remembers, tell winter came for House Frey’ to Daenerys – shall we begin?’ just got us hooked to the latest season all the more. Can’t wait for the next episode, right?
Just in case, you need a recap of season 1 to 6, before catching up on GOT’s first episode – Dragonstone, here’s a refresher of all the events you need to remember going into the new season.
