India.com had exclusively revealed to its readers that Sara Ali Khan was being considered to play the lead in Ranveer Singh – Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, much ahead of the official announcement. We also told you how Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor was also in the running, but it was Saif Ali Khan’s girl Sara who made the cut. Now, there are reports that it was Janhvi’s own doing that made her lose out to Sara.
We hear that the makers took the script for narration to both the Bollywood debutantes. However, nothing more was confirmed. However, Jahnvi went around telling everyone how she had been roped in for the film and also expressed how nervous she was to star opposite a star like Ranveer Singh. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, it was her blowing her own trumpet before an official confirmation or announcement that made her lose out on the project.
Around the same time, Sara’s Bollywood debut film Kedarnath was going through a rough patch with the director Abhishek Kapoor and producer KriArj Entertainment at loggerheads with each other. And Karan Johar, who is not only the producer of Simmba but also Sara’s mentor, decided to get her on board Simmba. The film will now mark her Bollywood debut, just like it was always supposed to be in a Dharma Productions film. The film is now set for a December 28 release date while Kedarnath with Sushant Singh Rajput was planned for a December 21 date, which now looks unlikely.
Janhvi, on the other hand, will debut with Ishaan Khatter in Dhadak on July 20. There were speculations that she had signed her next with Sanjay Leela Bhansali post after being spotted outside the filmmakers’ office twice in the past few weeks. But the truth has now been revealed, Janhvi and her sister Khushi were visiting Bhansali’s niece Sharmin Sehgal who lives with her family in the same building where his office is. So there is no film happening with the Padmaavat director and we are yet to hear about her next film post-Dhadak.
