Ranbir Kapoor’s Jagga Jasoos has hit theatres but the actor, who has been busy shooting and then promoting his film, hasn’t had the time to sit back and relax. A day after the release of his musical adventure drama with Katrina Kaif, Ranbir flew to New York. Not to let his hair down at the glamorous IIFA 2017 event but to start shooting a schedule for the Sanjay Dutt biopic.

This is an important schedule since it is this time that the Kapoor lad will shoot for one of the darkest phases of Dutt’s life. Ranbir will be filming at a rehab centre in NYC to bring to life the time when Dutt was struggling to get over his drug addiction problem. While Ranbir is in perfect shape physically to play the role, it was the mental preparation which needed much attention.

A source close to Ranbir exclusively revealed the details of how Ranbir prepared for the role. “It is not easy to get into the character of someone who’s going through a personal and professional crisis. Ranbir flew to NYC and shut himself up from the outside world. No phone, emails, or meeting friends or family there. He is staying cooped up in his room for a few days before getting on the sets,” said the source. (ALSO READ: If Not Dragon, What Will Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt Starrer Be Called?)

Further, the source said that Ranbir has met Dutt and discussed this phase at length to understand his state of mind during that dark period and do justice to the part. RK has also met some addicts who are currently undergoing treatment to get over the addiction to observe and pick up behavioral nuances.

Shooting for these scenes and portray a drug addict will obviously be emotionally draining for the actor. But he has plans in place to help him zone out once the schedule is over. Sharing details about Ranbir’s plans, the source revealed, “Once the shoot is over, Ranbir will take a few days off work for his much needed break. He has been shooting non-stop since the past few months and once Dutt biopic is over, he will start prepping for his film with Ayan (Mukerji). He plans to spend a few days in New York before returning to Mumbai and dive into work.” RK may even head for a mini vacay to Europe with family before work takes over his life once again. Talking about the scene he will be shooting for at NYC, it will take us back to the time when Dutt had found solace in drugs soon after his mother Nargis Dutt’s death in 1981. This coincided with the release of his Bollywood debut film, Rocky. He had shot for two more films – Vidhaata and Main Awara Hoon before leaving for the US. It was a difficult phase for Dutt both personally and professionally and he had also contemplated not to return to India or to films again. As per records, it is at the rehab that Dutt met Richa Sharma, his first wife. They got married in 1987 and have a daughter Trishala who has continued to stay in the US.
