On 15th August every year, India celebrates the glorious moment when it attained freedom from British colonization. Numerous leaders and revolutionary fighters laid down their lives to free the country from the clutches of the British rule. The patriotic fervour and the courageous spirit of the revolutionary fighters is beautifully woven in many a Hindi songs which are played throughout the day to commemorate this nationalist spirit. After all it’s a day, when we celebrate our ‘Indianness’–a common thread that binds all of us. And what best way to honour the day than dedicating the beautiful and soul stirring patriotic songs.
Bollywood movies have the best of ‘Desh Bhakti’ songs which reflect the spirit of patriotism and nationalism. We can never forget the heart-rending song, ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon’ sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Her soulful voice had left Jawaharlal Nehru, our first Prime Minister, teary eyed. It beautifully portrays the ‘do-or-die’ spirit of our soldiers who have sacrificed their lives to protect the nation from any external threat.
This year we have an even bigger reason to celebrate as it marks the 70th year of independence. To mark the significance of the day, we bring to you a list of 10 new age patriotic songs that best depict our pride for our nation.
