Is Aamir Khan forcing people out of their houses for his dream home?

Mumbai’s Bandra boy Aamir Khan lived in Pali Hill all his life, but shifted residence last year to a Carter Road sea-facing flat not too far from his old home. Sources said he was on the lookout for a bungalow in the vicinity to suit his star status, and maybe to match Shahrukh Khan’s Bandstand edifice Mannat.

But it seems Aamir is rooted in his small gali-mohalla in Pali Hill and wants to build his dream home in the same building complex. But there’s a catch. If he wants to do that, he will have to drive the old residents out from some of the flats in the twin buildings of Bella Vista and Marina Apartments. And that is exactly what he is trying to do, reports The Indian Express.

According to the daily, two residents of the complex managed under Virgo Co-operative Housing Society have filed a complaint against Aamir with the deputy registrar of co-operative societies. An 87-year-old lady Dr Pamela de Sa and her daughter Dr Geneve de Sa allege that the society’s management is on Aamir’s side and wants to push the premises for redevelopment.

The Indian Express quotes the de Sas’ complaint: “The Managing Committee is favouring the acceptance of a proposal from Aamir Khan who is trying to purchase 60 per cent of the flats for his own residence by forcibly dis-housing the existing members of the society and compelling them to search new premises.”

Kondon Sabloak, Virgo Secretary has denied the allegations saying the scheme is for redevelopment.

Geneve de Sa said to the paper, “The scheme proposed by Aamir Khan is not for redevelopment and re-accommodation, it is actually for selling the society’s property to Aamir Khan and also de-registering the society. The appointment of the architect for proposed development is not done, including failing to call tenders for inviting developers for proposed redevelopment.”

The Bollywood actor and his family own a flat in Bella Vista and two more in Marina. Dr Pamela owns two flats in Marina and Dr Geneve owns two garages in Bella Vista.

Aamir has reportedly offered to buy 20,000 sq ft of the 36,207 sq ft (3,364 sq m) property at the rate of Rs 70,000 per sq ft of carpet area from society members.

S M Patil, Deputy Registrar of Co-operative Housing Societies, said, “This proposal cannot be considered a redevelopment proposal as it involves selling of a majority of the plot.”

Aamir’s spokesperson reportedly said that it was Virgo Society that asked the actor to make an offer, which will be considered along with other offers.

We sure hope that Aamir finds a nice new home for himself. And knowing his nature, especially his recent initiatives through talk show Satyamev Jayate, we assume he will not force anybody just to have his way!
