It’s Mr. T’s birthday, and he pities the fool! Take a look at his most memorable sayings here, and a video!

Imagine – you start off as one among twelve children in a poor family, and you grow up to be so popular that people repeat your lines over and over again till they are memorable. That’s Mr. T for you. The actor’s real name is Laurence Tureaud, and he is best known for being part of the ‘A-Team’ on television. Since rising to fame, he is known for his gold chains.

When he was a bouncer at clubs, he would forcibly take gold chains from those who misbehaved around him – which then became synonymous with his look. And of course, how could we forget his signature catchphrase, “I pity the fool.”

On his birthday, we’ve made a list of his top five quotes. Check them out, here:

5.  As a kid, I got three meals a day. Oatmeal, miss-a-meal and no meal.

4.  I believe in the golden rule — the man with the gold, rules.

3.  When I was growing up, my family was so poor we couldn`t afford to pay attention.

2.  It takes a smart guy to play dumb.

And of course, his ‘trademark’ quote:

1.  I pity the fool.

Mr. T has also spoken about why he chose to name himself so. His reply is absolutely amazing.

“I think about my father being called `boy`, my uncle being called `boy`, my brother, coming back from Vietnam and being called `boy`. So I questioned myself: `What does a black man have to do before he`s given the respect as a man?` So when I was 18 years old, when I was old enough to fight and die for my country, old enough to drink, old enough to vote, I said I was old enough to be called a man. I self-ordained myself Mr. T so the first word out of everybody`s mouth is `Mr.` That`s a sign of respect that my father didn`t get, that my brother didn`t get, that my mother didn`t get.”
