That Christopher Nolan is in Mumbai is a known fact and has Indians excited. While everyone’s on top of the moon to have him in the city, leave alone in the country, Kamal Haasan is perhaps the happiest of them all. Why you ask? Well, because he was one of the first Indian celebrities to meet one of Hollywood’s most celebrated director. Nolan arrived in India on Friday with his wife. The actor-turned-politician took to Twitter to share a picture of their rendezvous. He captioned it, “Met Mr Christopher Nolan. Apologized for seeing Dunkirk in the digital format and in return am sending Hey Ram in digital format for him to see. Was surprised to know he had seen Paapanaasam.”

Nolan’s last film, Dunkirk, won the Oscars in the technical categories. The purpose of Nolan’s visit to India is “draw attention to the importance of celluloid in the digital age,” reported news agency IANS. It is filmmaker and archivist Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, who invited the Hollywood director to India. Dungarpur also founded the Film Heritage Foundation. He organised a three-day event for the Interstellar filmmaker. Before Nolan’s arrival, Dungarpur was quoted by IANS as saying, “Nolan is coming to India to talk about the advent of celluloid and shooting films in celluloid, something that he prefers. He is also going to talk about how the celluloid medium can co-exist with the digital mode.” In the meantime, take a look at Haasan’s post :

Among those who are expected to be joining the Inception director for the seminar on filmmaking in celluloid are Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kamal Haasan, Shyam Benegal, Farhan Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap among others. Not just that, a special screening of Dunkirk and Interstellar will be hosted during the seminar, for which the projectors have specially been flown in from the US.
