There have been reports of Kangana Ranaut doing a biopic on Rani Lakshmi Bai for a long time now. All this time we have been hearing that filmmaker Ketan Mehta will helm the biopic. Now, reports state that Kangana will begin shooting for the film on her 30th birthday that falls on Thursday but not with Ketan but some other director.
Yes, according to reports, Kangana will pose for Manikarnika, Jhansi Ki Rani biopic’s, first poster soon. The film will apparently be directed by Telugu director Krish who also made Akshay Kumar’s Gabbar Is Back. The historical biopic’s story is written by KV Vijayendra Prasad, father of Baahubali director SS Rajamouli. He also happened to have written plot of Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prabhas’ Baahubali. (ALSO READ: Karan Johar praises Kangana Ranaut, admits he is a movie mafia!)
Manikarnika is Rani Lakshmi Bai’s birth name and the biopic will retain it as the title. According to Mid-day’s source, “The new film will be helmed by a fresh team. A top studio, too, has agreed to back the venture, which is envisioned as an action-packed, feisty film. It is the biopic of an ordinary girl, who when faced with tough times, discovered the warrior in her. The film will go on floors in mid-May.”
On the other hand, Ketan Mehta’s film on Lakshmi Bai will have an international crew. He also has plans to make the biopic in English for wider audience. The daily further adds, “Ketan was insistent that his movie be made in English for an international audience, like Gurinder Chadha’s The Viceroy House, but those working on the film felt it won’t go with the ethos of the story.” (ALSO READ: Kangana Ranaut-Karan Johar Nepotism row: Kareena Kapoor Khan gives a diplomatic opinion; refrains from taking sides!)
Moreover, Kangana and a British writer were working together on Ketan’s film script. The source reveals, “The actress and the filmmaker couldn’t find common ground on the language factor, leaving the project in a limbo.“
