Kangana Ranaut’s much awaited Simran has released in theatres today (September 15) and the film has garnered mixed response. However, most reviewers are unanimous about Kangana’s stellar performance, which saved the day for a weak writing. Much like her off screen avatar, Kangana’s Praful Patel in the film plays a bold, brave and unapologetic woman.
But that doesn’t mean she is invincible or never makes mistakes. It is what she does post committing the blunders that deserves applause. Her character and the way she leads her life can give all women some very important life lessons. Here are a few…
You are the boss
What does independence mean to you? To be able to earn money you can call your own? Is that enough? What if you are not allowed to do what you want with that money? Most Indian women do not enjoy that freedom. The men in our lives, be it the father, brother or husband – feel that while we are capable to step up the success ladder in office, we cannot make investment decisions. They almost get offended when we take a decision without taking their advice. Praful Patel aka Simran’s father gets hurt as well when she declares that she wants to buy a house and has already zeroed in on a property! But she is confident of her decision and knows what she wants and she decides to have it at any cost.
Lesson 1: You decide what to do with your money. Read up, arm yourself with information, take advice and suggestion – but take your own decision!
It’s just a breakup…
… and not the end of the world. Praful Patel is a 30-year-old divorcee but a failed relationship hasn’t turned her against men or the idea of dating or finding love again. It is also not something to brood over and live life like ‘na koi umang hai, na koi tarang hai, meri zindagi hai kya, ek katii patang hai…’. For Praful, life moves on… normally – with or without a man in her life. She knows how to live life to the fullest, harbor dreams and ambitions, do silly things, eat at fancy places, dress up without a reason, and be the jaan and shaan of any party!
Lesson 2: Don’t let a break up break you or your love relationship with your own self.
Kangana Ranaut as Praful Patel, makes some really grave mistakes – blunders – in her life. She tries it all to control the situation. Running away is an option for her, but she decides to stay instead and put out a fierce fight!
Lesson 3: Face your demons, fight your demons, finish your demons.
Make the first move
Whoever told you that making the first move is not what girls do, just throw that advice out of the window. Kangana Ranaut in Simran shows you how easily it is done and how fun it is. Even if the chances are grime, let it not deter you from trying. The actress’ character isn’t afraid of facing rejection from the opposite sex and that comes from a space of immense self respect, self love and confidence.
Lesson 4: Like him? Tell him! Even God helps those who help themselves.
Your body, your rules
Kangana’s Praful in Simran doesn’t stop at making the first move, she also makes the rules in the bedroom. In one intimate scene, almost in the middle of things, she asks her man if he has protection on him. When he replies in the negative, she promptly decides to go no further. She makes it clear to him that, ‘no protection, no sex.’
Lesson 5: Be aware, alert and speak up! Always.
