Farhan Akhtar’s latest film, Lucknow Central opened to theatres this Friday (September 15). However despite a wide release, the film, which also stars Diana Penty, Deepak Dobriyal and Ronit Roy didn’t make good money at the box office on the first day as it earned only Rs. 2.04 crore by the end of Friday. Major thanks to Kangana Ranaut’s Simran, which is getting all the love, and money. It’s Kangana’s yet another stellar act that has become the talking point and going by the current scenario, it’s Simran that people are choosing over Lucknow Central. Also the similarities between LC and last month’s release, Qaidi Band, which marked the debut of Aadar Jain and Anya Singh, also plays a part in not so good box office figures of Lucknow Central.

Thankfully, Farhan’s prison break musical showed a slight growth on day two as trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and wrote, “#LucknowCentral shows 38.24% growth on Sat… Fri 2.04 cr, Sat 2.82 cr. Total: ₹ 4.86 cr. India biz. (sic).” So in two days, Lucknow Central has managed to earn Rs. 4.86 crore, while Simran stands at a total of Rs. 6.53 crore. Our in-house critic Smrity Sharma in her 2-star movie review wrote, “The plot is simple and follows more or less the pattern of last month’s release, Qaidi Band. And that wouldn’t have been a gripe at all if the story of Lucknow Central didn’t have so many loopholes. Kishen’s character is badly written and it fails to make you feel any of the emotions that he’s going through in the course of the film. Throughout the film, you see him struggle to make his dream come true. But what he finally does when given the chance to attain his goal is not addressed at all. Most members of the strong ensemble cast are wasted, especially Ronit Roy. He plays this strict, menacing jailor who keeps on harping about how Lucknow Central Jail, under him, is so disciplined and hard to break. And yet, he does nothing about the impending jail break that he claims to already know about.”
