Finally after an excruciating wait, makers of Mahanati released a teaser for the film today. The video clip released today features Samantha Akkineni narrating  a story about the great actress. She says, “Anaganaga Oka Mahanati (Once upon a time, a great actress…”) in the background. The video then cuts to Savitri in the peak of her career. With a bright smile, Keerthy Suresh who is essaying the role of Savitri is seen shooting for a film, or singing to her baby with her husband Gemini Ganesan (essayed by Dulquer Salmaan) by her side. However, we get to see only few seconds of Suresh in the teaser. The 50 second long video only carries a montage of the best moments of Savitri’s life and rushes past you quickly. Black and white scenes from Savitri’s films are interwoven with her real life story. It looks absolutely phenomenal and we cannot wait any longer for the trailer and consequently the film.

The teaser gives us an authentic glimpse of the film. Madhuravani, a journalist, (Samantha) is heard stammering before she begins narrating the story. She is seen going through the timeline board of Savitri’s life. She seems to be obsessed with the actress. However, we don’t get to see Samantha as well as the teaser is about the best female actor of the yester years. Mahanati, titled Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil, the film will release in Malayalam as well. Written and directed by Nag Ashwin, Mahanati is expected to release on 9 May. Take a look at the teaser below :

Speaking about the teaser, filmmaker Nag Ashwin gave out a statement. He said, “It is a gratifying moment, as we begin to unveil the film. The film’s teaser will bring to light the character, and reveal a fascinating peek into Savitri and all her glory.” It is a bilingual biopic, given that the actress worked in the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi film industries for over 30 years. Bankrolled by Vyjayanthi Movies and also stars Shalini Pandey, Vijay Deverakonda, Prakash Raj and others in pivotal roles.
