Shah Rukh Khan and his 'ramp' controversy

Controversies and Bollywood stars always go hand in hand. And this time, it’s Shah Rukh Khan, again – or his home. It so happens that the ramp outside to Shah Rukh’s house Mannat in Mumbai has been causing inconvenience to the general public. According to The Times of India, several residents’ organisations have filed complaint against the ramp, which is used to park King Khan’s Vanity Van. Following the complaint, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief has decided to take immediate action against the Happy New Year actor.

The ramp next to the Bollywood star’s famous Bandstand bungalow is raised on public property and also blocks the stairway to Mount Mary Church. Residents, under the banner of the Watchdog Foundation, had written to BMC to demolish the ramp as it was blocking the way to church. Despite several follow ups, no action was taken.

“All we heard from the civic ward office was that they did not have the cadastral survey number of Mannat and hence could not initiate action,” said advocate Godfrey Pimenta, a trustee of Watchdog Foundation to TOI. “We were appalled by this response, which we received recently under the Right to Information Act.” A week ago, the residents renewed their fight against the ramp.

The organisation wrote to the municipal commissioner as well as the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to take immediate action. They had also carried out a silent protest march outside Mannat on August 15 for the same case.

The residents are under the impression that the authorities are refraining from taking any action against the Bollywood Badshaah as he has high contacts everywhere. The citizens have also threatened the commissioner stating that if the assigned officers take no criminal action against Shah Rukh Khan, they will take matters in their own hands.

As told to Mumbai Mirror, Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte has already written to assistant municipal commissioner of H-West Ward and the deputy municipal commissioner demanding immediate action.
