Looks like it’s Hollywood calling for yet another Bollywood actress. Well, we’re talking about none other than actress Radhika Apte, who is all set to star in an untitled female driven World War II film that also stars Castle fame Stana Katic and Sarah Megan Thomas. The film is based on real-life spiesin the then British Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s “secret army”, online portal Deadline reported. The film also stars Linus Roache (Batman Begins) and Rossif Sutherland (River) in pivotal roles.
The Padman actress took to Twitter to confirm the news. She captioned the post as, “Next Project” and that’s what got everyone buzzing. She is expected to play the role of Noor Inaayat Khan, a pacifist of Indian descent who, for the uninitiated, was also the first female wireless operator. The film’s protagonist Katic, is a British Intelligence Officer, Vera Atkins, who along with the two women, Khan (Apte) and Virginia Hall (Thomas) are sent into France as spies. How the trio goes on to form a sisterhood while struggling with the missions they’re entrusted with to bring about a change in the course of the war, is the basic premise of the movie.
The film is helmed and produced by Lydia Dean Pilcher (Queen of Katwe) and the principal photography of it is slated to start this spring. Meanwhile, Apte will star opposite Dev Patel in Michael Winterbottom’s upcoming feature The Wedding Guest. She was last seen in Akshay Kumar starrer Padman that also featured Sonam Kapoor in a pivotal role.
