Rani Mukerji, happy birthday: Revisiting 5 powerful performances of the star!

Born on March 21, 1978, Rani Mukerji is certainly of the most remarkable actors in Bollywood. The hone-eyed beauty is celebrating her 37th birthday. This is her first after the much-talked about and much-guarded marriage with Aditya Chopra. Rani has certainly started a new chapter in her life and what a remarkable journey she has had so far.  After making  debut with Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat in 1997, in the following year she proved her mettle as an actor in Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In 2002, she starred in Saathiya opposite Vivek Oberoi and the film became a blockbuster. And then this talented actor delivered hits after hits like Chalte Chalte. Later Rani only flourished as an actor and went on to appear in successful movies such as  Hum Tum, Veer Zara, Black, Bunty Aur Babli and Kabhi Alvida Naa Krdaani was simply mind blowing. Her performances in No One Killed Jessica, Talaash and Mardaani were simply mind blowing.

Mardaani: Clearly an explosive performance from Rani! The petite actor portrays by far the most believable and intensely fiery cop that we have witnessed in a slew of movies in the recent part. The lady seriously gives the Singhams and Dabanggs a tough competition as she cracks the whip in this Pradeep Sarkar film that entertains in a ‘filmi’ way.

Talaash: Though Aamir was the star of this thriller Rani made her presence felt with a role that was as significant as it was demanded to be underplayed. She conveyed frustration and helplessness of a mother who lost her child in a tragic accident. She showed remarkable restraint with her performance. Very well done lady!

No One Killed Jessica: Rani as a fiercely passionate reporter caught us by the eyeballs with her effervescence and her inherent rawness. While Vidya Balan’s performance in the movie was equally commendable, it was Rani who stole our hearts by playing a rather agrresive chracter who stops at nothing to take a case at its logical conclusion.

Black: Easily the best performance that Rani Delivered in her career. Black revolves around a blind and deaf girl, and her relationship with her teacher who himself later develops Alzheimer’s disease. The film draws inspiration from Helen Keller’s life and struggle. Rani gave the baap of Bollywood Big B a run for his money with a performance that left us stunned!

Hum Tum: Kunal Kohli’s romantic tale could easily be dismissed as a mushy Bollywood fanfare but the fact remains that Rani brought so much energy, sparkle and drama to the whole story with her character that demanded her to portray a range of emotions. And yet the actor stood out….dare we say tall with her glam quotient and her sex appeal.
