Hollywood has been struck with multiple sexual harassment allegations and this has definitely led people to raise eyebrows over the way the entertainment industry functions across the world. The many Hollywood scandals that have been coming to the fore in recent times have led many to wonder if the same has happened in Bollywood as well as not many have spoken about it in the past. However, there’s one actor who has recently spoken her mind on the same and it’s none other than Richa Chadha. The actress in an interview with Hindustan Times said that it could be a little too soon for women and men in Bollywood to speak up on this issue.
She was quoted by the leading daily as saying, “I don’t see that happening immediately given the culture of naming and shaming in our country. But when it happens, people, who you see making feminist films and claiming to be progressive etc, they will all come tumbling down.” From the myriad roles that the actress has portrayed on screen, one can make out that she is quite an advocate of women’s rights. In fact, on the work front, she has acted in many films that have been quite a refreshing change from the ones that show the women in the stereotypical light. She went ahead to say that it is rather easy for Hollywood stars to speak about it openly as they have a share in the royalties. She stated that when compared to Bollywood, here the stars still face the fear of losing their jobs once they open up about their individual experiences. She went onto take a firm stand on the issue and maintained that it is also the judiciary that needs to step up and impose harsher punishments for the culprits. Richa will be seen in Fukrey Returns along with her co-stars Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Manjot Singh and rumoured boyfriend, Ali Fazal. She will be seen playing the role of Bholi Punjaban, which is very different from the roles she has played in hard hitting films such as Masaan, Gangs of Wasseypur and Sarbjit.
