New Delhi, April 7: Bollywood actor Salman Khan might have to spend a few more days in jail as the District and Sessions Judge, Ravindra Joshi, who was supposed to hear actor’s bail plea at 10:30 AM on Saturday, was transferred by the Rajasthan High Court on Friday night. The actor had on Thursday appealed for a bail, soon after he was sentenced to five years in jail, with a penalty of Rs 10,000 in connection with the blackbuck poaching case.
Yesterday, the Session Court had reserved its order on Salman’s bail plea till Saturday. According to informed sources, the judge asked for more documents, such as files of previous cases heard by Rural and High Courts before he takes a decision on the actor’s bail plea. Salman’s case was presented in the sessions court by senior advocate Mahesh Bora, who came with a 51-page bail application.
He said the witnesses’ statement should not be trusted in the case as they raise a benefit of doubt and questioned why only Salman had been convicted out of all co-accused.
Salman was taken to the Jodhpur Central Jail amid tight security on Thursday, soon after his conviction. The Bollywood superstar was charged under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and others under Section 51 read with Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code. He spent two days in barrack number two as qaidi number 106. The prison houses rape-accused Asaram Bapu, Bhanwari Devi murder accu nighsed Malkhan Singh Vishnoi and Shambhu Lal Regar, arrested for killing a Muslim and blatantly filming the act.
