Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan vs Prabhas' Baahubali collections: Who won race at Box Office?

Two movies have been ruling the box offices in India over the past month. Various releases of both Bollywood as well as Hollywood movies have failed to reduce the impact of these movies. They are Bahubali: The Beginning starring South star Prabhas and Bajrangi Bhaijaan featuring superstar Salman Khan. Their collections have been breaking many records and creating history on the box office. The box office has seen such a stiff competition between two huge movies after a long time. Also Read: 11 reasons why Kattappa killed Bahubali in movie Bahubali: The Beginning!

Four weeks after its release, Baahubali has grossed magnificent Rs. 545 crores worldwide. It went past the world wide collections of Aamir Khan’s 2013 blockbuster movie Dhoom 3, which had collected Rs. 542 crores. This collection is a combined collection of the movie’s Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and French versions. The movie was shot in Telugu and Tamil and dubbed into the remaining languages. Bahubali: The Beginning now stands behind Aamir Khan’s PK and Salman Khan’s Bajrangi BhaijaanAlso Read: Baahubali beats Dhoom 3 in Box Office collection worldwide: Prabhas movie makes Rs 545 crore!

With an initial release covering over 4200 theatres, the movie has had a wide reach to the audience due to the diversity in the languages. It has already made a record of being the first Telugu / South Indian film to gross over Rs. 500 crores. Having completed its fourth week, the Hindi version of the movie has a wide presence in over 750 theaters (752) and has made a weekly collection of 10.70 crore. This collection is comparably large for a dubbed movie, especially in a time where movies hardly manage to stay on screens for 3-4 weeks. Also Read: Bajrangi Bhaijaan box office report: Salman Khan fails to beat Baahubali’s record!

The movie registered an average occupancy of 70% in weekends and 60% in weekdays. The netted collection of the global box office is around Rs. 395 crore. The movie, whose theatrical rights were sold for a whooping Rs. 135 crore has earned Rs. 280 crore. The movie is ranked fourth in its all-time grossing, standing behind Dhoom 3 by mere Rs. 17 crore. The chances of the movie beating this record are pretty high. Also Read: Bahubali: Shah Rukh Khan is inspired by Prabhas’ latest blockbuster!

The second movie ruling the box office is Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan. This Kabir Khan directed movie has managed to impress both the critics as well as the audience. Three weeks after its release, the movie is still ruling the box office in most of the west and north regions of India. Its fourth weekend saw a netted collection of Rs. 7 to 7.25 crore, falling behind PK which grossed a netted collection of Rs. 8 crores in its fourth week.  Also Read: Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan box office report: BB beats Dhoom 3; makes Rs 540 crore in worldwide sales.

The movie has a presence in over 1060 screens and has already entered the 300 crore club. The business of the film is currently around Rs. 302.75 crore approximately. The movie is currently the second highest grosser, falling behind Aamir Khan’s PK. The movie has been declared tax free in UP and has maximum collections from Delhi, Rajasthan, UP and Mumbai.

While comparison of these two films is not possible as the target audience as well as exposure of the film was different, analysts say that the netted income of Baahubali will be more considering the taxation system followed in Andhra Pradesh, where the film will be taxed. However the gross income comparisons show that Bajrangi Bhaijaan is ruling the box office in the northern and western regions, while Baahubali: The beginning is reigning in the southern parts of India.
