The actor turned filmmaker Satish Kaushik began his journey as a film director with Anil Kapoor – (late) Sridevi starrer ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’ 25 years ago but the film failed miserably at the box office; it was the most expensive film of its time yet the biggest failure. On Monday, Kaushik took to his micro-blogging site to apologise to producer Boney Kapoor for delivering a box office failure that left him broke.

Alongside the film’s poster, featuring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, Jackie Shroff and Anupam Kher, Kaushik wrote, “25 years ago it was a disaster at the box office, but it was my first child and will remain close to heart. Remembering madam Sridevi and my sorry to Boney Kapoor who gave me a break but was broke after the film.” The movie failed to get the expected response despite its cast.

Kaushik’s Twitter post generated mixed responses, with some social media users agreeing with him about how the movie fared, while some lauded it for its technical values. However, Kaushik took it all in his stride. Kaushik further added, “It is not about good or bad after 25 years. It is about owning your failures with your head high in the air. You must be a very successful person, but try owning your failures and I assure you, you will be more successful.” ALSO READ: Celebrity fashion designer Manish Malhotra Pays Tribute to Sridevi; Recalls He Spoke to Her on the Day she Died

The lead star of the film Anil Kapoor also took to Twitter and wrote we miss ‘Roop Ki Rani ‘ every day. Anil’s tweet read, “Can’t believe it’s been 25 years for #RKRCKR I remember the obstacles that we faced during the shooting of this film & after as well but it was still a memorable journey. We miss the Roop Ki Rani every day.”

Anupam Kher, who played a crime lord in the film, also expressed his support. He tweeted, “I have great memories of #RoopKiRaniChoronKaRaja which completes 25years. ‘Shaitan Ki Kasam’ will always be proud of my association with the film & with @BoneyKapoor @satishkaushik2 @AnilKapoor @bindasbhidu & @SrideviBKapoor. In some failures there are greater success stories.🙏”

Reportedly, Shekhar Kapur was announced as the director of the film in 1987 but after he left the film mid-way, Satish Kaushik took over and ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’ finally released in 1993. On the professional front, Anupam Kher will next be seen as former Indian PM Dr Manmohan Singh in the film ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’, which is based on the 2014 book penned by Sanjaya Baru. Meanwhile, Anil Kapoor is filming Atul Manjrekar’s ‘Fanney Khan’, which also stars Aishwarya Rai. Watch this space for further updates.
