As if Shahid Kapoor hasn’t had enough questions to answer regarding his film Padmavat, which is yet to see the light of day, he has been at the center of the speculation regarding the casting of the two female leads for his upcoming film Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Katrina Kaif, Shraddha Kapoor, and Vaani Kapoor, have been the most prominent names being taken amidst the speculation. However, according to Mumbai Mirror, all that has been put to bed as the filmmakers have finalised Shraddha Kapoor, as the lead heroine in the film, after they announced Yami Gautam as the second lead only yesterday.

Shraddha Kapoor is well acquainted with working with Shahid Kapoor. The two had a great chemistry in Vishal Bhardwaj’s critically acclaimed Haider, where the two were seen opposite each other. Talking about Shraddha’s appointment for the role, producer Prernaa Arora said, “Shraddha was keen to come on-board because it is a career-defining role. The film is a love story at its core set in a small town. It is also socially relevant as it highlights the issues of electricity shortage that the common man faces.” ALSO READ: Rajasthan Government Bans Padamavat From Releasing In The State

“Instances have been reported where even after not being at home for a better part of the month, families return to huge electricity bills. The film investigates such issues with a sarcastic undertone,” she further added. The film is scheduled to go on floors in the first week of February, and will continue to shoot in a start-to-finish schedule in Rishikesh, Tehri, Haridwar, Mussoorie and Nainital. The makers are planning to wrap up the film by May 2018, in order to make it in time for their slated release date of August 31, 2018.
