It is Sidharth Malhotra’s 33rd birthday today (16 January, 1985). The actor, who made his Bollywood debut in 2012 with Student of The Year, is one of the most good looking guys we have around right now. However, while his contemporaries have marched ahead with some meaty offers and also proved their acting chops while doing these, Sid has kind of lagged behind. Even though he has a great screen presence, looks awfully gorgeous and drool-worthy, he has a long way to go as far as acting is concerned.
Thankfully, there have been films and roles that have shown a glimpse of what he is capable of. Perhaps, that’s the reason why the actor hasn’t been written off as yet despite so much talent in the industry. We would like to believe that his haters are converting with his work in recent films like A Gentleman (2017) and Ittefaq (2017). Now, the biggest challenge for the actor is to choose roles where he can excel so that he too enters the Bollywood club where actors don’t just survive on their good looks, but are loved for their performance as well. Because, after all, it is that that will ensure bum on seats, followed by a good return at the box office.
On Sidharth Malhotra’s 33rd birthday today, here are five roles that we feel he should do more of to prove his mettle and beat his contemporaries in this Bollywood game where fortunes get made and broken every Friday.
Intense: In films like Ek Villain (2012) and Ittefaq (2017), Sid aced the intense look. The restrained performance works in his favour and he has the perfect personality to complement such a role.
Negative: All those who have seen Ittefaq would agree that Sidharth was a revelation in the film. Playing the baddie is what he should explore from time to time.
Romantic: Sidharth hasn’t done an out an out romantic film. But in glimpses of his chemistry with Alia Bhatt in Kapoor & Sons (2016) and with Jacqueline Fernandez in A Gentleman (2017) proved how he can play the lover boy who makes us feel all kinds of things. He is touted to play the hopeless romantic in Mohit Suri’s Aashiqui 3 alongside Alia and we really really hope that does happen and soon.
Action: If you have missed watching Sidharth inside the boxing ring in Brothers (2015), you have perhaps missed one of his best performances till date. The actor not only physically transformed himself into a beefy beast but also worked on his mannerisms to resemble that of a professional boxers. Something tells us that if given the right kind of role and training, the actor can do wonders when given an action packed role.
Slice of life: There is something about role in these kind of films – every things is happy and feel good and the audience ends up having a nice time while watching it. The sentiment that reigns when you leave the theatre is a positive one. Even a lacklustre performance is ignored most of the times. And with Sidharth, who is a decent actor armed with great looks, the case won’t be that hopeless. Remember how audience welcomed Imran Khan into the industry with open arms with his debut film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na despite a performance that wasn’t up to the mark?
Okay, so this may have turned out to be an article no birthday boy should read. But look at it as a ready guide to help Sidharth Malhotra choose or ditch roles to make the right impact in his Bollywood career. We wish the actor, who will be seen in Aiyaary on February 9, a great 33rd birthday and a successful year at the movies.
