Sri Reddy has decided to stay in the news by dropping one major revelation after the other upon the Telugu film industry. The actress has become the pioneer of the #MeToo movement in India by not just talking about casting couch or sexual exploitation of women in the film industry, but naming and shaming some of the biggest names in Tollywood. After naming Suresh Babu’s son Abhiram Daggubati, Kona Venkat, Koratala Siva, Viva Harsha, Sreeram Chandra amongst others, the actress has now alleged that producer Vakada Appa Rao sexually exploited female artists including minors.
The actress made the revelation during a debate on Telugu news channel Mahaa News and later took to her social media handle to reiterate the same about Vakkada Apparao. Interestingly, the actress is now not the only one to be speaking up about being taken advantage of in return of a job. During the debate on the TV show, the channel received a series of calls from artists, who identified themselves as Shreya, Srivaani and Sridevi among others, alleged that they too were victims of Vakada Appa Rao’s cruel intentions.
Another victim named Hema said that Rao sexually exploited her on the promise of giving her a role films produced by him and used her ‘for one full night’. Rao too joined the the debate on Maaha TV over the phone and denied all the allegations made by Sri Reddy or other artists who connected with the channel over the phone.

The producer is associated with big budget movies like Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi No 150 and Rangasthalam star Ram Charan’s Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. Sri Reddy is slowly getting support from other members of the Telugu film industry. She has been accepted by MAA after the association lifted the ban on her and Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) also took up a strong stand by setting up a Committee against Sexual Harassment (CASH). Sri Leaks has always had support from controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma and this time, after the Sri leak about Vakada Appa Rao, the director demanded immediate action against the producer. In his tweet, he said, “I am deeply shocked with the horrific reality of Vaakada appa rao and every civilised persons hearts should go to his sexual victims and I implore upon the authorities to take immediate notice of his terrible atrocities (sic).”

In a series of tweets, Varma also congratulated Sri Reddy for “taking such immensely courageous decisions and and for achieving such a sensational and BLOCKBUSTER ViCTORY.” We hope that more and more women come out in the open, from not just Telugu but all film industries and name and shame those who demand sexual favours and exploit women making false promise of giving them work.
