Hollywood movie actors like Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale among others are perhaps one of the greatest findings for the industry of Hollywood. But every now and then, people tend to miss some of the best works by these highly acclaimed actors either due to ignorance or otherwise. We bring you a list of some of the movies that should have been labelled as the greatest movies but were left unnoticed:
Johnny Depp – Don Juan DeMarco
Don Juan DeMarco is a 1995 American romantic comedy-drama film starring Johnny Depp as John Arnold DeMarco, a man who believes himself to be Don Juan, the greatest lover in the world. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Then why is it that you’re probably hearing it for the first time? The film also features Marlon Brando portraying the role of Dr. Jack Mickler, a psychiatrist who dissuades a 21 year old patient claiming to be someone else. The movie introduces the original Bryan Adams song, “Have you really loved a woman?” This song was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song at the 68th Academy Awards. Rarely does one see a pair – up of such a kind i.e. Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp. They acted together in another movie called The Brave as well. (Read: 10 movies based on true stories)
Leonardo DiCaprio – What’s eating Gilbert Grape?
Adapted from Peter Hedges’ 1991 novel of the same name, What’s eating Gilbert Grape is a 1993 American drama film directed by Lasse Hallström and starring Johnny Depp, Juliette Lewis, and Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio’s performance as “Arnie Grape” won him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor and open praise from other performers, such as Tom Hanks. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe. What’s eating Gilbert Grape is definitely the kind of movie you’d want to add to the collection of DVDs you already own.
Personal lover and ardent fan of Tarantino’s work, I was very surprised when a movie like True Romance missed my attention. But when I discovered this movie, I was blown away. A 1993 American romantic crime film directed by Tony Scott (The A-Team) and written by Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction), this movie stars actors like Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, and Christopher Walken. Yes, that’s right! This movie can be classified as one of those star – tenanted badass blockbusters of the 90’s that an action – lover absolutely cannot miss. Reviews for the film were largely positive (Obviously!). Phil Villarreal of the Arizona Daily Star called it “one of the most dynamic action films of the 1990s”. So all those moviebuffs who haven’t seen True Romance yet, you know what to do!
