Many would argue that Tamannaah Bhatia didn’t have a role as strong as that of Prabhas (Amarendra and Mahendra Baahubali), Rana Daggubati (Bhallala Deva) and Anushka Shetty (Devesena). But then there will be some who would know better and say that it is not the screen time but the quality of the role that matters when it comes to awards and recognition. The actress was a revelation in Baahubali in her role of Avantika and she is now being awarded for the same with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2018.

After bagging the iconic Sridevi Award at Zee Apsara Awards, actress Tamannaah Bhatia will receive the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award for her outstanding performance in the blockbuster “Baahubali: The Beginning”. The actress played a warrior who is on the quest of freeing Devesena from the cruel ruler of yje Mahismati kingdom. She also played the love interest of Mahendra (played by Prabhas). Even though Prabhas and Anushka Shetty’s pair is one that fans love and cannot get enough of, they absolutely loved to see Prabhas and Tamannaah together. In fact, when the makers of Saaho were hunting for a leading lady, many suggested that if not Shetty, then Bhatia should be chosen to be his heroine in the actioner.

Coming back to Dadasaheb Phalke award, it will also be conferred upon actress Anushka Sharma for her innings as a producer and actor Ranveer Singh for his portrayal of Alauddin Khilji in  Padmaavat. The award ceremony will be held in Mumbai on the April 21.

The award is given to various individuals from the entertainment industry for their outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema. “I’ve grown up knowing what immense involvement Dadasaheb Phalke had enjoyed in Indian cinema. It’s such an honour to be conferred an award from the foundation,” Tamannaah said in a statement. Tamaanaah is currently working on Telugu film “Naa Nuvve” and the Telugu remake of Bollywood film “Queen”.
