The most interesting facts about Sholay you did not know

SholaySholay was not just a film, it was a phenomenon in many ways. The mid 70′s saw a rage in theatres after word spread of the story and people would line up outside theatres for hours to catch a show and many would watch multiple shows. Minerva Theatre in Mumbai had 5 years of uninterrupted shows for the film. There are many popular facts related to this epic film but here are a few facts that you didn’t know.

  • Danny Denzongpa was the first choice for Gabbar 
  • The famous kitne aadmi they scene took over 40 takes to be shot 
  • Saambha or Mac Mohan had just one line in Sholay but he is still known as Sambhaa 
  • Shatrughan Sinha was considered for the part of Jai (played by Amitabh Bachchan) 
  • Dharmendra took the role of Veeru because he would be paired opposite Hema Malini; He wanted to be Thakur. 
  • Amitabh and Jaya got married less than a year before shooting for the film began. 
  • 5 years after Sholay was released, Hema Malini and Dharmendra got married. 
  • The village of Ramnagar where Sholay was shot is popularly known as Ramgarh. The people also call it Sippynagar to respect the director.
