There was always a plan to turn Tiger into a franchise and there have been continuous buzz about Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif’s Tiger Zinda Hai getting a sequel. Now, confirming the same, director Ali Abbas Zafar has revealed in an interview that he has plans for both the sequel and the prequel of the 2017 blockbuster. According to reports, the director plans a prequel which will start exactly where Ek Tha Tiger (2012) ended.

It will then explore the love story between Tiger and Zoya and all that happened in their lives in the eight years between ETT and Tiger Zinda Hai. How they escaped and cut ties with their respective agencies and yet stayed in touch; how they took their relationship to the next level and welcomed a new member into their family and turned their make-shift houses while on the run, to a home.

While this is great news for all Salman-Katrina fans and those who love the Tiger franchise, there is another plan running in Ali’s mind which might not look too enticing to you. The director is also leaning towards making a sequel rather than a prequel but this one – will not be about Salman. In fact, it may have him in just a cameo or not even star him at all. As per reports, the director wants to focus on Katrina’s character of Zoya. Her life as an ISI agent and then of an ex-agent who then becomes a dedicated wife and mother.

Interestingly, Ali gave Katrina a meaty role in Tiger Zinda Hai and the scene where she single-handedly takes down IS terrorists while helping sex slaves escape, with no Tiger in the picture, was quite appreciated. The actress was a revelation in the film. She also has a huge fan which will ensure footfalls in the theatres even if she was the hero of the film. Perhaps, all these facts have given Ali the idea of exploring her backstory in Tiger 3. Well prequel or sequel, we will be happy since after Sultan (2016) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), we know that Ali will not disappoint. What do you think?
