Washington, Aug 12: US President Barack Obama today condoled the sudden demise of Oscar-winning actor Robin Williams and described him “as one of a kind”. Hailed as a comic genius, Williams was found dead in his Northern California home yesterday of suspected suicide. He was 63.
“He was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry,” Obama said. “He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalised on our own streets,” Obama added sending his condolences to Robin’s family and his friends.
Williams was found dead at his home in Tiburon, California. Local law enforcement officials said a preliminary investigation indicates the cause of death was a suicide due to asphyxia. But, an investigation is continuing. Apart from his funny antics, the actor was lauded for his serious roles as well, winning a best supporting actor Oscar for his performance as Sean Maguire, the therapist who counsels Matt Damon’s math genius in ‘Good Will Hunting’.
