Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s dream project, Padmavati, is all set to release on December 1 this year. However, the historical period drama has been in the midst of a lot of controversy ever since news of it being made first made headlines. From vandalizing the sets of the film to attacking Bhansali, some extremist Rajput organisations have done it all to ensure that the Deepika Padukone–Shahid Kapoor–Ranveer Singh starrer never sees the light of day. However, Bhansali being the determined filmmaker that he is, the film made it through all the odds, leaving fans impressed with its posters and trailer. Now with not even a month remaining for the movie’s release the movie finds itself in a pool of controversies yet again, with these Rajput outfits doing every thing they can to stall the film from hitting the screens. Actress Vidya Balan, a member of the CBFC, came out strongly in support of Padmavati and urged the audiences to watch the film first and then form a judgement.
Vidya who is currently busy promoting her film, Tumhari Sulu, was asked what she felt about the ongoing Padmavati controversy, to which she in an exclusive chat with India.com said, “I feel that every kind of film should be allowed to be released in the way its been made and then if you din’t want to go and watch it, don’t watch it. But atleast watch it to know what it has . At least someone should watch it and then word of mouth spreads anyway. But before watching it to say that it’s this that and the other, I feel it’s a bit unfair because I feel we put in a lot of efforts on our films. We really work very hard, even though it seems like we are having fun all the time. We enjoy what we do but it’s a lot of work. So please come and watch our films.” Check out the video below: (ALSO READ: Vidya Balan’s Reply To A Journalist Fat Shaming Her Is The Attitude You Need To Get Through This Tuesday)
Her last film, Begum Jaan too found itself caught up in unnecessary controversy ahead of its release. The film was set during the partition period of India and Pakistan and revolved around the story of a Madame of a brothel. The film got a lot of negative limelight for the cuss words that Vidya was seen using and the CBFC ,then, had demanded a total of 12 cuts. The film was even banned in Pakistan. Anyway, coming back to Vidya’s upcoming film Tumhari Sulu, it is a slice of life film, which will have Vidya play a housewife by the day and an RJ by the night who is known for her sensuous and seductive voice. The film is slated to release on November 17 and also stars Manav Kaul, Neha Dhupia and RJ Malishka.
