Kolkata, April 8: Premier South Africa and Bangalore batsman AB de Villers rang the bell at the Eden Gardens — which is a tradition to start off the match at the majestic stadium – before the start of the Indian T20 League contest between home franchise and two-time champion Kolkata and Virat Kohli-led Bangalore.

The decision to  honour de Villiers was taken by the Cricket Association of Bengal Chief and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly ahead of the inaugural clash of the lucrative T20 tournament at the majestic stadium.

Earlier, Heartthrob and Bollywood Superstar Shahrukh Khan, who is also a co-owner of the Kolkata franchise in the ongoing Indian T20 League was present at the stands during his franchise’s first face off in the lucrative tournament against Virat Kohli-led Bangalore.

“I have heard Shahrukh Khan has arrived here,” former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen, who is the host and commentator for the official broadcaster said during the pre-match show.

The Bollywood superstar has been present on many occasions to support his side during the earlier 10 editions of the Indian T20 League at the majestic Eden Gardens here which has the capacity to fill in nearly one lakh spectators at a time.

The two-time champion Kolkata has is owned by Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, actress Juhi Chawla and her spouse Jay Mehta. The team is coached by Jacques Kallis. The leading run-scorer for the side is their former skipper Gautam Gambhir and their top wicket taker is the West Indian mystery spinner Sunil Narine.

Coming to the match, Dinesh Karthik had won the toss for the home side and invited the away side to bat first.
