Asia Cup 2014: Can Bangladesh beat Pakistan to give India hope?

On the back of some excellent batting up front by Anamul Haque and Imrul Kayes, Bangladesh posted a huge total of  326 for the loss of just 3 wickets in their allotted 50 overs in the Asia Cup. The Bangladeshi openers showed some excellent batting skills and application of technique and shared a partnership of 150 runs for the first wicket.

The Bangladeshi batsmen were rather quiet in the power play over as they played out the overs of Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal and later launches on an all out attack on the Pakistanis in the last 10 overs.

The Pakistani bowlers tried their heart out with ball the whole day, but the performance by the Pakistani fielders led them down big time. It was just an extra ordinary team effort by the Bangladeshi batsmen as every batsman who walked in came in with intent and played as if they are playing for their lives.

The only bowlers who could control the Bangladeshi batsmen to some extent were Mohammad Hafeez. Even Saeed Ajmal who had given just 9 runs in his first five overs ended up with figures of 2/61 in ten overs, his worst so far in the Asia cup.

What a Bangladesh victory with bonus points does is that it will open the doors for India to make their case for the finals of the Asia cup. If Bangladesh wins this match with a bonus point and the next match with Sri Lanka then they will share the second spot with India (if they manage to beat Afghanistan with a bonus point) and Pakistan on the points table with 9 points each. In that case the finalist will be decided on the basis of the net run rate of each team.

So all the Indian fans better pray for the Bangladeshi team to crush Pakistan to defeat and then win against Sri Lanka, so that they can see the Indian team lift the Asia cup again.

Brief score: Bangladesh 326/ 3 (Anamul Haque 100, Imrul Kayes 59. Saeed Ajmal 2/61, Mohammad Talha 1/68)
