Maria Sharapova crashed out after her fourth round loss to Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova.  2008 grand slam champion followed World No. 1 Serena Williams  on her way out of the tournament. She lost in three sets 3-6 6-4 6-1 to the 20th seed.  Throughout the tournament Sharapova gave lacklustre performance and finally succumbed to the petite Slovakian. Dominika successfully capitalized on Maria’s error stricken game.

Making a comeback from long layoff due to string of injuries, the career slam winner faced trouble with her serves. With her serves backfiring and a focussed player in form of Dominika sealed the results for the former champion.

With the fourth round victory, this is going to be the first time Dominika Cibulkova has made it to the quarter finals of the Australian Open. She looked a more determined player of the two despite losing the first set. She rallied back to take the next two sets in fashion.
