This is for the second consecutive year that Simona Halep was knocked out in the first round of Australian Open
Simona Halep became the first big name to crash out of Australian Open 2017. The Romanian suffered a defeat in straight sets as she lost to American Shelby Rogers 6-3, 6-1 in the first round. This is for the second consecutive year that the world number four was knocked out in the first round of Australian Open. Last year Halep lost to Chinese qualifier Zhang Shuai.

The problems grew for Halep as she suffered a knee injury and required medical attention after the first set. She struggled with her knee throughout the second set, eventually lost to her American opponent in 75 minutes.
“I can play about 45, 50 minutes without pain. And then it comes. Today it was about 5-3 in the first set, so then it was tough to fight, and I couldn’t do what I wanted,” Halep was quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “I didn’t see the doctor yet. I need an MRI. I probably need some time off to get it recovered, because it’s difficult to play with the pain,” she added.
In 2014 and 2015 edition, Halep had made it to the quarter-finals. This is her fourth first-round exit in seven main draw appearances. Also Check- When and where to watch Australian Open 2017 Live streaming online
