Bangladesh settled their score with Afghanistan as they beat them comprehensively by nine wickets in the opening game of World T20. Bangladesh while chasing the modest target of 73 lost the only wicket of Opener Tamim Iqbal (21). Anamul Haque carried his bat through and scored 44 while Shakib Al Hassan chipped in with 10 runs. For Afghanistan Samiullah Shenwari was the lone wicket taker.

Earlier After winning the toss Bangladesh elected to bowl first on a wicket which assisted spinners’ right from the first ball. Afghan batsmen looked to score quickly but were baffled by the Bangladesh spinners. Inside ten overs Afghanistan were 50-5 and were never able to make a comeback in the game. Afghanistan batsmen went for too many big shots which cost them wickets early on and were bundled out for 72.

Bangladesh were up to the task and did not missed any opportunity to curtail Afghanistan. Shakib Al Hassan lived up to the expectation and finished with match figures of 3.1-0-8-3. Left arm slow bowler Abdur Razzak scalped two wickets for 20 runs in his four overs. Mashrafe Mortaza, Mahmudullah and Farhad Reza had one wicket each in their wickets column.

Bangladesh will now face Nepal and Afghanistan will play Hong Kong in their next assignments.
