Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, Asia Cup 2016: Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 23 runs in Mirpur

It was a thrilling win for Bangladesh as the hosts beat Sri Lanka by 23 runs in an Asia Cup encounter in Mirpur. Winning the toss and electing to bat, Bangladesh made 147 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. The top scorer of the innings was Sabbir Rahman, who made 80. For the Lankans, the pick of the bowlers was Dushmantha Chameera, who bagged three wickets. (Also check: Asia Cup 2016 Points Table: India leads Asia Cup T20 Team Standings & Positions)

The chase for the Lankans was not the swiftest and they were eventually restricted to 124 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. The highest scorer of the innings was Dinesh Chandimal, who made 37. The pick of the bowlers for the hosts was Al-Amin Hossain, who bagged three wickets.

Both teams have looked slightly sluggish in the tournament. While Bangladesh are trying hard to finally shed the minnows tag forever, Sri Lanka have a long road of rebuilding ahead of themselves.

Lanka find themselves in a corner and would need strong performances against Pakistan and India if they are to stay alive in the tournament and not be dependent on other teams. Bangladesh had to win this match to not find themselves in strife. Remember, they had already lost to India earlier in the tournament. All in all, Sunday’s encounter was more than a saving grace for them.
