With Sri Lanka and Pakistan having already booked their places in the final of Asia Cup 2014, the final league game of between hosts Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be an inconsequential one. As hosts Bangladesh have had a terrible run in the Asia Cup , having lost their matches in the competition, one of which was an embarrassing loss to debutantes Afghanistan.
Sri Lanka on the other hand have won all their games so far and will target another one to extend the winning streak going into the final. A loss against the battling Bangladeshi side, in all probability, might derail their preparation ahead of the final against Pakistan.
Today’s last match of the round-robin phase of the Asia Cup 2014 is just academic with Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka in Mirpur. While Bangladesh will use the match as an opportunity to save face as hosts, Sri Lanka will use it as a practice match ahead of the big final against Pakistan on Saturday.
