New Delhi: Bayern Munich defeated Paris St Germain at the Allianz Arena to halt their unbeaten run in the Champions League. In a Group B encounter, Bayern emerged victorious by 3-1 and thus brought an end to PSG’s five-match winning streak. However, despite the defeat, the French side progressed as Group B winners.

Before the clash both the teams had already qualified for the knockout stages. However, the top place in the group was up for grabs with Bayern Munich needing a four-goal margin win to take that spot. The improbable feat at one stage looked achievable when Robert Lewandowski and Corentin Tolisso handed a 2-0 lead to Bayern.

Just after the half-time, Kylian Mbappe scored to bring the scoreline to 2-1. However, Corentin Tolisso struck again for Bayern, and the last goal of the match, to make it 3-1. Though Bayern came close to registering an emphatic win, PSG did well to avoid that.

Interestingly, Bayern’s lone defeat in Group B came at the hands of PSG in shape of 3-0 in Paris in September.

Both PSG and Bayern ended on 15 points each, but it was the goal difference that saw the former top the group. Celtic took third place while Anderlecht finished last in Group B.
