Gold Coast, April 9: Star Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal is up against World. No. 29 Soniia Cheah from Malaysia in the women’s single event. If she wins the match India badminton team will clinch a gold medal, which will be the the tenth for the nation.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games Champion got better off Cheah 21-11 in the first game but the Malaysian returened 19-21 in the game to keep herself alive in the competition. Saina, was earlier involved in controversy a with the IOA related to her father’s inclusion in the Commonwealth Games Gold Coast village. India, thus now have 10 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze in the ongoing marquee tournament.

Earlier, India earned their ninth gold as their table tennis team blanked Nigeria 3-0. India’s Harmeet Desai and Sathiyan Gnannasekaran defeated Nigeria’s Olajide Omotayo and Bode Abiodun in the double’s match, which was the last tie to secure top spot in the Commonwealth Games Gold Coast 2018.
