Gold Coast, April 7: Weightlifter Venkat Rahul Ragala earned India the fourth Gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2018 here on Saturday as he lifted 338 kilograms in the Men’s 85 kg category. He lifted 151 kg in snatch and 187 kg in clean & jerk.
Ragala became the first Indian to win gold in the 85 kg weight category. India, have thus claimed 6 medals so far in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2018, all the medals have been earned by the weightlifters. Earlier, India’s weightlifter Sathish Kumar Sivalingam won gold in Men’s 77 kg weightlifting category. The 25-year-old lifted a total of 317kg (114kg+173kg) and was so ahead of the competition that he did not go for his final clean and jerk lift.
Sivalingam had also won the gold medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow in Scotland.
