Kolkata, April 8: Kolkata rode on brilliant batting performances from Sunil Narine on the top and skipper Dinesh Karthik in the middle order to outplay the visitor Bangalore by 4 wickets in the Indian T20 League at the Eden Gardens here on Sunday.

Asked to bat first, Brendon McCullum (43) and AB de Villiers (44) helped Bangalore reach a challenging total of 176/7. Later, Sunil Narine (50) and Dinesh Karthik (35 not out) ensured Kolkata sail over the fence with 7 balls to spare.

For Bangalore, Chris Woakes scalped three wickets while Umesh Yadav picked two.

Meanwhile, for Kolkata Nitish Rana (34) played an important knock before Andre Russell – who was retained by the franchise alongside Narine played a quick-fire 15 runs innings.

Asked to bat, Bangalore lost Quinton de Kock (18) early. However, McCullum scored a blistering 27-ball 43 runs and forged a 45 run second-wicket stand with Virat Kohli (31) before he was dismissed by Narine.

Later, Kohli and de Villiers were involved in a 64-run third-wicket stand before the latter was sent back by Nitish Rana – who in the very next delivery got rid of the Bangalore skipper.

De Villiers hit five sixes and one boundary in his 23 balls knocks, while Kohli’s innings was laced with a boundary and identical number of six.

Following their dismissals, Mandeep Singh (37) played an important cameo off 17 balls to help the visitors reach a challenging total of 176/7.

For, Kolkata their spearhead pacer Vinay Kumar was the pick of the bowler returning figures of 2 for 30.
