The Russian pair of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina won their maiden Wimbledon women’s doubles title on Saturday with a thumping 6-0, 6-0 win over Taiwan’s Hao-Ching Chan and Romanian Monica Niculescu.

The second-seeded duo have now won three Grand Slam events in doubles following their wins at the 2013 French Open and 2014 US Open.

The final lasting 54 minutes saw the Russians having to save two break points against a pair playing together for the first time this season.

Earlier, the top-seeded American Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Czech Lucie Safarova pulled out before the second round after Mattek-Sands suffered an injury during a singles match.
