England players celebrate following nine runs victory against India at the Lord's.

England women defeated India by nine wickets to win their fourth World Cup title at the Lord’s in a thrilling final. Anya Shrubsole scalped six wickets to snatch the victory from India while leading England to World Cup victory.

However, there was a big twist in the match as India were in a commanding position at one point of the match when opener Punam Raut and Harmanpreet Kaur, who played the final with right shoulder niggle, built a 95-run crucial partnership for the third wicket . The Raut-Kaur stand was shouldering India close to the victory but Kaur, who was looking for big shots, was removed by Alex Hartley for 51 and that dented India.  Till Raut was batting India had their hopes but following her departure India suffered a big collapse. From 191 for 4 India lost their remaining six wickets for just 28 runs. Also Check- India vs England Women’s World Cup Final- As it Happened

After Kaur was dismissed, India looked up to Raut. The right-hander was looking good until she suffered a hamstring injury. She was eventually dismissed on an individual score of 86. England bowlers then pressed hard to keep India on the toe and eventually restricted India to 219.

India’s chase got off to a poor start as they lost Smriti Mandhana, who was bowled by Shrubsole for a duck. After Mandhana’s departure, Raut and skipper Mithali Raj tried to put the innings back on the track. However, Raj (17) didn’t last long as she was run out.

Earlier, England winning the toss elected to bat first and posted 228 for 7 in stipulated 50 overs. Though England opening duo Lauren Winfield (24) and Tammy Beaumont (23) gave Indian a sound start, the middle order failed to accelerate the innings as Indian pace bowler Jhulan Goswami kept them in check.

In the middle order, wicketkeeper-batswomen Sarah Taylor (45) and Natalie Sciver (51) tried to salvage the innings with an 83-run partnership. The dangerous duo was dismissed by spirited pace bowler Goswami, who took three wickets in the match in 10 overs conceding 23 runs.

When Goswami was piercing through England middle order spinner Poonam Yadav sneaked in with two wickets in her 10 overs.

Later in the innings lower middle order batter Katherine Brunt (34) and Jenny Gunn (25) added some crucial runs which helped England to cross 200-run mark and set India a competitive target of 229.
