February 12, 1:30 AM: Chelsea face EPL relegation candidate West Brom at The Hawthorns. With Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool all set to play on Wednesday, Jose Mourinho’s men have an opportunity to extend their lead at the summit. Here are 5 reasons why Chelsea will come out on top against West Brom:
1- West Brom’s woeful form
A five-match winless streak has seen West Brom drop into the relegation places for the first time since round four of the season, and defeat might result in them slipping a place lower. The Baggies haven’t won a league match since January 1.
2- Eden Hazard
The Belgian had a terrific game against Manchester City in which he troubled right-back Pablo Zabaleta. The winger also grabbed his first hat-trick on English soil against Newcastle United in a 3-0 win after the City game. It’s safe to say Hazard is not going to have a problem.
3- Schedule advantage
As Chelsea play a day before their title rivals, the current UEFA Europa League champions have no pressure on themselves. Chelsea’s one-point lead over Arsenal and a two-point lead over Manchester City could increase with a comfortable win.
4- Injury problems for West Brom
Stephane Sessegnon and Nicolas Anelka remain sidelined for the hosts. West Brom head coach Pepe Mel’s latest injury concern is defender Billy Jones ahead of the clash. Jonas Olsson still remains a doubt following a hamstring problem. With lack in firepower Mel might find it difficult to match Chelsea’s might.
5- Chelsea’s brilliant form
Not since the 3-2 loss against Stoke City early in December have Chelsea suffered a league defeat. The London club has also not conceded away from home in four league games since. West Brom won over Chelsea last term but goalscorers Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie have both left the club.
